Prospects of cooperation with the Italian region of Sicily were discussed

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Italy Rashad Aslanov visited Sicily, the largest region of Italy, on February 15-16, 2024.

Within the framework of the visit, a meeting was held with the president of the Sicilian region, Renato Schifani, and extensive information was given about Azerbaijan's foreign policy, economy, culture, and the situation in our region.

R. Schifani noted that fertile conditions for business have been created in Sicily and there is a desire to turn the region into an energy center of Europe, and he noted that he is ready to cooperate in developing relations with Azerbaijan, as well as in the direction of both Azerbaijan investing in Sicily and Sicily investing in Azerbaijan.

Later, R. Aslanov met with the businessmen of Sicily and made a presentation about Azerbaijan's economy, the favorable business environment created in our country, the Alat free economic zone, investment opportunities and answered the questions of the heads of the companies.

R. Aslanov met with Roberto Lagalla, the mayor of Palermo, Maria Carmela Librizzi, the prefect of Catania, Enrico Trantino, the mayor of Catania, Luca Sammartino, the vice president of the Sicilian region, and discussed the possibilities of cooperation.

At the University of Catania, with the participation of the deans of the faculties of law, political sciences and medicine, a meeting was organized with the University management and possible cooperation perspectives were discussed. Professor Pinella Di Gregorio, dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences, said that he wrote the book "The Black Gold of the East" and talked about Azerbaijan in it.

At the end of the visit, R. Aslanov met with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce in Catania, informed about the events in our region, and exchanged views on possible trade relations between Azerbaijan and Sicily.
